Cute MKV Converter is a multi-format video converter. It doesn't really restrict you to converting MKV files to other formats. In fact, you can open any of the plenty supported formats and convert those files to a variety of other formats. Most of the popular formats supported are: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, AVI, WMV, DV, etc. The application has a built-in video editor that allows you to trim and crop your videos and add video effects and watermarks.
Cute MKV Converter has a very simple and nice user interface. It has cartoonish buttons that do give it a "cute" look. There is a video player for quick video previews and it works OK. At the bottom of the screen are the output options. You can simply select a format and then change video options.
In my testing, I used an MKV file which had a resolution of 1080 and a 6-channel audio track. I selected H.264 as the format, and in the options, I set the resolution and the number of audio channels to remain "as source". The process wasn't fast per se, but the resulting file was of very good quality.
